Today marks the 1st anniversary of FocusPoint Geeks and our parent division Focus7! If you’ve just hit, or are about to reach, your business’ 1st anniversary, you may be wondering where you should be as you’re heading into your second year.
Firstly, the fact your business is still here is a fantastic achievement. It’s an established fact that most start-ups fail, so you’ve clearly proved that there is a market need for your product or service, and have formed a base of good customers. You may not be profitable just yet, but hopefully you have plans in place to scale your business up, bring on more customers, and upsell to the ones you already have.
Ideally, you will have produced a business plan at the start of your journey, which included some goals for the end of your first year. Now is the perfect time to review those goals. Were they realistic and measurable? Did you come close to hitting them or are you still a fair distance away? Should you set similar targets this year, or tackle a different area of your business? Set some new SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely) for the end of year 2, but also look to setting smaller quarterly or monthly goals to help you more accurately measure progress as you go.
In this first year, you likely struggled with managing your time and finding enough hours in the day. Perhaps you’ve typically had to dedicate a lot of time to making sales and keeping up with customers. The start of the second year is the perfect time to look at automating those processes, and getting your data and your business more organised, to save on time.
