Attracting traffic to your website is all well and good, but what happens once they actually get there? Are they left to wander aimlessly around your site and leave, or maybe they open the page and bounce straight off?
If you aren’t capturing the details of the people visiting your website, you’re actively losing sales.
Start by taking a look at your homepage as if you’ve never seen it before. If you’re struggling to do so, have someone from outside the business take a look for you.
Is there a data capture box immediately visible on your homepage? If not, this is the first thing to implement in order to efficiently capture leads. If you do have a data capture box, is there a compelling reason to fill it out? Not simply ‘Contact us’, but an actual incentive or offer like ‘Enter your details and receive a 20% off voucher’. Is the box positioned on the right hand side of the page, which is often deemed as the most effective?
Is your webpage easy to navigate? Can you find – without having to look too hard – all the important information? Are your contact details visible on every page, not simply your ‘Contact’ section?
Does your homepage explain, in simple terms, what your business does? Is your design clean and clear, and not distracting from what you’re trying to say? Is your design pointing to your data capture box in some way, perhaps with an arrow or maybe with an individual in a photograph looking towards the box?
Try setting up Google Analytics on your website to help you know which areas of your site are being viewed most often, and for how long. If people are immediately bouncing off of your homepage, you know that you need to change things around. If everyone is headed straight to your product page but you have no data capture box there, make sure to include one. Analysis is incredibly important when ensuring you don’t miss out on turning your traffic into leads.
